They plug into the OBD2 port (needs to have completed the drive cycle), check for codes, and hopefully pass it. While it all sounds fun, my issue in the People's Republik of Tax York is the annual inspection. The car has a H22 swap with a Euro H22 head and cams, a Type S pistons and other internals, etc. Yes, an odb0 computer can run an 0db2 engine, but you have to have parameters set in motion for it to do it, like rechipping the ecu, to activate vtec, or run a rpm switch or vafc to activate vtec.I've come across a 1997 Civic that someone has thrown too much money at.enough that it makes financial sense to sell off my 2000 Civic I've been fixing up for rallycross and road rallies and swap the best bits onto this new-to-me chassis. for my 91 dx, all you have to do is pull back the carpet and count the blinks and once again pull the corresponding fuses to clear the code. for the 00 si and the 91 dx converted to odb1, all I did was hook a wire or safety pin into the diagnostic plug by the ecu and count the blinks on my cel, after you've fixed the problem, pull out the ecm and hazard fuse to erase the code.

I have always been able to check my cel codes and make them go away, with my 00si, 91 dx and the same 91 dx converted to odb1.

For example, you can use an OBD0 computer to run an OBD2 engine. It is based on the computer you are using. You could also get a OBD2A to OBD1 Jumper Harness and run a OBD1 92-95 Civic EX ECU (which is a P28). In addition, you need to run an OBD2A 96-98 Civic EX ECU (D16Y8) because your D16Y7 ECU will not engage VTEC. OBD (On Board Diagnostics) is not engine specific. Then just change out the Harness and everything will be plug-n-play. A handful of people sell this type of ecu jumper here, including me. Reaonsbeing is that OBD2a & OBD2b ecu plugs differ and are incompatible with each other.

However, Honda made an exception to this on the 96-98 Civic DX and LX, and on the 96-98 Civic EX with automatic transmission by using a 3 wire IACV on these models. One last thing that alot of people seem to forget or not think of. 4) If you plan to use a 99-00 Civic or 00-01 integra ecu into a 96-98 EK civic, you will NEED a OBD2a->OBD2b jumper harness adaptor. The 2 wire IACV uses one wire for power, and the other wire is for the idle control from the ECU. Sometimes people convert they're OBD0 cars to OBD1 but this is not as common as the previous example and requires a conversion harness or alot of knowledge and experience to do it urself. When people swap OBD1 and OBD2 controlled engines into their car, they generally don't transplant the OBD1 and 2 electronics with it. Many people working with OBD2 vehicles swap to either OBD1 or 0. I would never want to try to swap an engine into an obd2 car unless I was converting to OBD0 or OBD1. Engines using OBD1 and 2 generally run cleaner by utilizing the extra sensors to control your emissions. The diagnostic generations are OBD 0, OBD I, and OBD II. But, you must own the scanner tool to do this.Ģ. Honda ECUs have a Diagnostic Generation, Model and a Board Revision. OBD2 codes Toyota 98 Toyota Camry Rear Front Trailing Arm Bolt Bent.

As crxlvr said, obd1 and obd2 are better when it comes to figuring out what's up with ur car and making ur CEL (Check Engine Light) go away. Toyota Camry Clicks Wont Start 1998 Honda Civic Runs Bad- Code P0172 Fuel Trim. It is a hell of alot easier to swap an engine to an OBD0 vehicle due to less sensors and plugs therefore less wiring and it is alot easier to understand what those sensors do and which plugs go to them.ġ. The first step is to find your vehicles diagnostic plug. It is alot easier to figure out why there is a check engine light on by counting the blinks on ur ECUĢ. Connector is located on the passenger side. In my opinion, OBD0 is "better" when it comes to swapping engines.
